What To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Apple TV, Hulu, Paramount And More

Hello weekend warriors! TGIF! We’re over halfway through the truncated month of February, with just one weekend after this one before March springs on us. It’s still cold and snowy out in my neck of the woods, which makes it a perfect weekend to stream some shows or movies and play video games. Here’s what’s new at all your favorite streaming services.

Unlocked (Netflix) — February 17th

This South Korean thriller looks very tense and frightening. It’s about a woman who loses her phone. It falls into the wrong hands and she finds herself being stalked by a dangerous psychopath. Creepy and relevant to our smartphone-addicted society.

Picard Season 3 (Paramount+) — February 17th

As I researched what to stream this weekend, I had a realization: The third season of Picard kicks off today and I haven’t seen the second season. There’s no way I’m going to be able to binge an entire season before tonight, so I guess I’ll just add this to the backlog. I know people were pretty critical of Season 1 but I thought it was alright. Not exactly what I was expecting but it had its moments—just not enough to make me excited for Season 2. I’d say between this show and Star Trek: Discovery I kind of burnt out on Star Trek, to the point where I still haven’t watched Strange New Worlds, even though everyone says it’s great.

Season 3 of Picard does sound like a move in the right direction, reuniting many of the crew members from Star Trek: The Next Generation for one last chance at some nostalgia.

Carnival Row Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video) — February 17th

I watched one episode of Carnival Row back when it came out years ago on Amazon Prime Video and thought it was okay. Then I promptly forgot all about it and never returned. To this day I’ll see it browsing and think “I should watch that sometime” but I never do. I guess that one episode didn’t do it for me. Plus, I hear mixed things. Some people say it’s really good, but lots of people say it’s not worth the time. And it’s cancelled after Season 2. What do you think? Am I missing out? Should I also catch up on this one? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.

Three Thousand Years Of Longing (Amazon Prime Video) — February 17th

Weirdly, I’d never even heard of this Idris Elba / Tilda Swinton led fantasy film from Mad Max director George Miller. It’s about a djinn and the professor who frees him. Honestly, that’s all I really know. It came out in 2022 so it’s not a new release but now you can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.

Animaniacs Season 3 (Hulu) — February 17th

The final season of the re-rebooted animated show Animaniacs, a show that immediately gets a certain song stuck in my head that I will now be singing to myself all damn day. I was always a massive fan of Looney Tunes and while that didn’t translate into a deep love of Animaniacs (since I was a lot older when that originally aired) I did become a massive fan of Pinky and the Brain. I also love the Pinky and the Brain live-action spinoff series, Breaking Bad.

“What are we doing tonight, Mr. White?”

“Same thing we do every night, Pinkman, try to take over the world!”

Sharper (Apple TV+) — February 17th

An A24-produced film about grifters starring Sebastian Stan, Julianne Moore, Briana Middleton and John Lithgow. The trailer looks good, though reviews are middling (it’s a Fresh 64% on Rotten Tomatoes). Still, a twisty-turny mystery that keeps you guessing could be just the thing on a cold February night.

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (Disney+) February 18th

For the young’uns, this animated Marvel series is about Moon Girl, a New York City genius who’s BFF is a big red T-Rex named Devil Dinosaur. The third episode airs this weekend. It looks cute! Kind of reminds me of Clifford the Big Red Dog. You can watch the entire first episode in the video above.

The Last Of Us (HBO Max) — February 19th

The Last Of Us is one of the best shows on TV right now, and even though I was a little letdown by last Sunday’s episode, I’m taking that as a slight bump in the road and not a sign of things to come. The trailer for the episode (above) looks awfully good. I’m reviewing the Pedro Pascal / Bella Ramsey led apocalypse-drama here on my blog as well as on my YouTube channel. Feel free to subscribe!

If you’re not watching The Last Of Us, you should remedy that. It’s a fantastic adaptation of the award-winning PlayStation game that’s at once a faithful adaptation and a new take on the story.

Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (HBO Max) — February 19th

John Oliver picked up the funny-and-smart baton from John Stewart and Stephen Colbert when both those guys decided to stop being funny (and don’t sound all that smart lately, either). Oliver has done some really great socio-political commentary over the years and I have no doubt that Season 10 will continue in that same tradition. The season premiere kicks off this Sunday.
