It’s been a massive four weeks for the contestants on Australian Idol with the live shows finally returning to our TV screens this Sunday.

After more than a decade off the air, the singing competition which has produced the likes of Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, and Matt Corby has returned for its eighth season.

On Tuesday night, the final eight of the top 24 performed and the top 12 were revealed.

This year, three West Aussies have made it into the live performance round.

Western Australia is yet to crown its first-ever Idol winner.

Before the live shows start and the nation votes for their next Australian Idol, get to know the West Aussies vying to make history as the first WA Idol winner.

Sash Seabourne

Age: 24

He stole the judges’ hearts during his audition when he put his own spin on a Whitney Houston classic but during the top 24, Sash put down his acoustic guitar or an electric guitar and showed fans a new side.

“I’m not here to mess around and I won’t waste this opportunity,” he said before his performance.”

It was a side the judges hadn’t seen before. He was the first person through the top 12 in the second group of Idol contestants on Monday night’s episode.

“I feel on top of the world, I wish I did better. . . I just want to use this opportunity to do better next time.”

A fun fact about the long-haired surfer from Margaret River, he once lived with the boys from Spacey Jane.

Phoebe Stewart

Age: 15

The high school student was the first West Australian contestant of the season to score a touchdown.

Phoebe received her touchdown from Meghan Trainor, meaning she was automatically going through to the top 12.

“This is the best feeling ever, I don’t want it to end,” she said after her performance of Florence and the Machine’s You Got the Love.
