The board game is having some time in the sun. Where once board games were exiled to a hall closet with a couple pieces and one of the dice missing, now millions of people have big collections full of all types of games. There’s something on the shelf for everyone these days from easy to teach family games to cerebral strategy simulations.
Arcade1Up looks to expand board game enthusiast’s options even further. The company released the Infinity Game Board and Infinity Game Table, a pair of touchscreen devices that allow players to have dozens of classic games at their finder tips. I got a chance to check out Infinity Game Board and tested it with the toughest audience I could find: my family.
Infinity Game Board Details
Infinity Game Board is an electronic way to play your favorite board games. It features over 100 games to choose from. It also includes privacy screens for those games that use hidden information to play.
The biggest advantage to the games on the board is quick setup, play and takedown. You don’t have to worry about losing pieces or digging out score pads in between games to transition from one game to the next. For that matter, if nobody’s feeling the game, picking a new one is as simple as a few quick screen selections.
The games also offer a solid way to learn how many classic games are truly played. Because games are often taught orally, versions can change due to unexpected house rules, misremembered instructions and other unintentional changes. But don’t worry if there’s a personal rule that you love; many of these games offer an options page to change the rules to your liking.
Infinite Game Board Games
The stars of the show are several Habro Gaming board games that almost everyone has played. They include Monopoly, Clue, Connect Four, Guess Who, Yahtzee, Trouble and more, most of them free with the purchase of the board. There are also several games that take advantage of the touchscreen technology and multiplayer setup.
Additional games can be purchased through the app store. These include modern classics such as Ticket to Ride and Pandemic, as well as different versions of classic games like Monopoly: Batman. Infinity Game Board offers a lot of classics you already know how to play.
Infinity Game Board is built to be played on a tabletop or other flat surface. While it may seem like a tablet, it requires a wall plug and isn’t built to be flung around. There’s a battery pack option for gaming on the go but I can’t imagine playing this on the road or somewhere there’s not an outlet nearby.
As a board game fan, I also hope the game selection expands sooner rather than later. I’ve got some excellent board game translations on my phone I’d love to play on the bigger screen here. I’m hoping to see games like Sentinels of the Multiverse and Lords of Waterdeep on the platform to save wear and tear on my physical copies.
Fininty Game Board is available from Besy Buy at an MSRP of $499.99. It’s an excellent choice for board game fans who want to reclaim some space from games almost everyone has or for families who want to play the classics without worrying about losing important parts of the game.
