Marvel Snap has an integrated progression track where as you level up the rarities of your cards, you will unlock currencies, cosmetic and most importantly, new cards as you go. But as it turns out there is a literal end of the road you can buy your way to if you want, given that the developers had not accounted for anyone whaling out quite this hard.
Someone posted in the official Marvel Snap Discord that they had hit Collection Level 22,366, and the rewards track simply…stops. They ask if more rungs will be added any time soon, causing the developer to chime in saying that it was a world’s first for anyone to get that far, and that more levels would be added soon.
To understand just how absurd Collection Level 22,366 is, compare that to me, someone who has bought no bundles with units for progression, but has played every day almost since launch. I’m currently at Collection Level 2,214, essentially 10% of where this person is.
Getting that high would not only require buying every bundle, but also mass-buying gold to use for daily quests to get more units that way. Plus, all the boosters you’d need to acquire to be able to upgrade your cards in the first place. We’re talking hundreds of hours and thousands upon thousands of dollars here. Reportedly around $5,000. Not wild for a mobile game in general, I suppose, given the whaling industry, but again, a world’s first for Marvel Snap here.
The thing about Marvel Snap is that it doesn’t really even reward whales all that well. I’ve heard from plenty of people at Collection Levels ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 who say they’ve never opened a single Series 5 card, the rarity which all new cards are introduced to the game, because of their 0.25% drop rate chance. So you can spend a ton of money on the game and still be missing out on even getting one card from even the tier you want. You’ll have to rely on tokens alone to buy them in the rotating shop. It’s not really a great system for mid-term and long-term players, though progression moves along at a good clip when you first start.
Marvel Snap will begin “demoting” cards between series just a few days from now, which will give more progression potential to all players. But for its megawhales who have reached the end of the rainbow, I’m sure Snap will figure out ways for them to throw more money at the screen as well. The other day I also saw a guy who had purchased every single variant in the shop (for around $15,000) to the point where it simply stopped selling him stuff. Some people, man.
