Smut Drop: I’m on a mission to get everyone talking about sex

To celebrate the launch of Metro.co.uk’s brilliant new sex podcast Smut Drop this week, co-host Jackie Adedeji reveals why she’s totally up for helping people get in touch with their sexual side.

I’ve always been completely fascinated with dating and relationships.

As a kid, I would sit and watch Blind Date with Cilla Black on a Saturday evening and try to imitate her, calling  myself ‘Doctor Love’, as I attempted to set friends up by finding out who they fancied.

I’d then seek out their crushes on the playground and use my charm to find out which girl or boy they liked – and I loved every second of it.

As I got older, I became obsessed with working out what makes both sexes tick and looked up to women like Janet Jackson and Paris Hilton who used their sex appeal to create businesses and brands.

I loved that Janet tossed away her good girl Jackson image to feel sexually liberated and free on her 1993 Janet album, while Paris Hilton used her sex tape.

Then, of course, we also had the Spice Girls who taught us everything we needed to know about girl power, including not shaming women for having topless photos, having your boobs spill out at the Brits and telling men where to shove it.

While I didn’t end up being Ginger Spice or the next Cilla Black, I did get lucky enough to bag a gig hosting Metro.co.uk’s brand new podcast Smut Drop, alongside my fabulous co-host Miri, where we’ll talk all things sex, relationships and dating.

And it’s the perfect job for me, as a natural oversharer – I tell everybody everything!

Think of me as your fun aunt, who never judges, sips wine, always has her nails done and gives you advice based on her not so great experiences so you don’t make the same mistakes.

What I also love is that we’re creating a place that’s a safe space for people to talk about all the things they can’t tell anyone – yes, your deepest darkest fantasies and secrets are all welcome at Smut Drop, with no judgement, no shame.

I’m ready to get us talking taboo with this podcast. The stigma surrounding sex and relationships can be paralysing and stop us feeling free. Shame is often something that sends us into fight or flight mode, where you stop experiencing things – even from living. I want to help give you the tools to combat that.

That’s because shame plagued me a lot growing up. I was a young, fuller-busted woman who felt like my body was an issue – but never felt I had a voice to discuss how I was really feeling.

I had all these questions about my body, about sex and relationships, but didn’t know who to ask. Instead, I had to rely on Ask Jeeves or Reddit to give me the answers –  but who needs a search engine or forum, when you have me and Miri?

As well as getting all the goss from your favourite celebs, we’ll also be dying to hear your best sex and relationships tips, as well as sharing some of our own.

In fact, I’m on a mission to get you feeling you’re very best, sexually charged, empowered, ready to date, ready to try anything once (providing it doesn’t kill you!).

So if you’re feeling lost sexually, whether it’s because you’ve just had a baby or broken up, or maybe you’re celibate, or yet to do it… whatever or wherever you are when it comes to all things sex, join us every Wednesday and we’ll help you get back in touch with your sexual side.

It’s no exaggeration to say that this is the podcast you will be sending so quickly into your WhatsApp group chats, you might end up sending it to your nan.

After all, if now isn’t the time to priotise your sexual pleasure, when is?

Smut Drop will be available to download from all your usual places, from Wednesday 23 March. For a sneak peek, you can listen to our trailer here.
