It’s the last Wednesday of the month, which would normally mean something for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Typically, the last Wednesday of the month is when Sony unveils the following month’s PS Plus lineup—or, rather, the PS Plus Essential lineup.
Now that PlayStation Plus has three tiers—Essential, Extra and Premium—we have to specify. PS Plus Extra and Premium games come to the service in the middle of the month, while the three free games that have always been released for PS Plus release on the first Tuesday of the month. (PS Extra/Premium will likely release on the 21st, two weeks later).
This is why we’re not getting the announcement today. The first Tuesday of February isn’t until February 7th. This means we’ll get the big reveal on Wednesday, February 1st next week instead of today. And that’s okay! It just means we have a little extra time to speculate on what we’ll get next month, and keep our eyes out for leaks and rumors.
As far as leaks and rumors go, however, mum’s the word. Nothing has leaked (yet) and while we have gotten a lot of leaks over the last year or two, lately these have only dropped hours before the official announcement. I’ll keep an eye out and update this post if that changes.

Right now, the same goes for rumors. Nothing yet—and nothing really to clue us in on what might be down the pipeline. There aren’t even any game releases on February 7th, meaning we likely won’t see anything new as part of the free release lineup.
One wrinkle in all of this is the February 22nd release of the PSVR 2 headset along with a number of launch titles. It’s entirely possible that Sony will release some free VR titles in February for PS Plus subscribers (maybe at the Essential, but also maybe at the Extra tier). A game like Gran Turismo 7 would make a great February PS Plus title since it’s both a normal and VR title and is getting a free update for the PSVR 2.

Beyond this, we can make some predictions and games for the wish list. My list is:
- The Order 1886
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Fenyx: Immortals Rising
- Cult Of The Lamb
- Nier: Automata
- Insurgency Sandstorm
In December, one of my predictions was Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order which ended up being right! Usually—and I’m not proud of this—my predictions are more “wish list” than predictive. It’s all a guessing game when you don’t have strong evidence or clues. In any case, we shall see what Sony gives out next month one week from today. Stay tuned! I’ll update this post with any new information in the intervening days!
Forspoken just launched on PS5 and PC and it’s not doing so well!
