pratik: Pratik Gandhi Interview: There is space in mainstream Bollywood for an actor like me and that gives me confidence | Hindi Movie News

Pratik Gandhi’s life changed overnight after the release of his web show, Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story in 2020. Besides appreciation from the
audience, B-Town filmmakers, too, applauded his talent. Pratik, who will soon be seen in films like Atithi Bhooto Bhava, Dedh Bigha Zameen, Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan? and a rom-com with Vidya Balan, says, “I am overwhelmed with the way the audience appreciated me and filmmakers have welcomed me into the industry. It is a dream for an actor to begin in mainstream Bollywood like this. I am excited to create new characters in all the exciting projects that are coming up.”

He adds, “I truly believe that each project is like a new beginning. As an actor, it gives me sleepless nights. I have experienced this while doing stage shows, too.”

Ask him if he feels that he has finally arrived and made the much desired mark in showbiz and he says, “I don’t know if I feel like I have “arrived” yet, but I am getting a chance to work with so many fine actors and directors, and at the same time, I am aware that I have to prove myself in every project. Having said that, one thing is for sure, there is space in mainstream Bollywood for an actor like me, and that gives me some sort of satisfaction, security and confidence as well.”

Apart from Gujarati movies, the actor has been seen in small parts in Hindi films like 68 Pages (2007), LoveYatri (2018) and Mitron (2018). Looking back, the Bhavai actor says, “When I came to Mumbai from my hometown Surat in 2004, I had this dream of making it big in Bollywood. But it got lost as I juggled between doing theatre, regional cinema, a small gig on TV — where I was completely rejected — and managing my full-fledged corporate job. In the process, my dream got buried deep within me, and I began to feel that all dreams are not meant to come true and that you should move on. All these experiences helped me grow personally and enhanced my craft. Then, Scam 1992 marked a new milestone in my journey. Today, when I look at the projects lined up, I don’t feel nervous or pressurised. I am only excited. I guess my experience in theatre and Gujarati films, where I worked mainly as the central protagonist, has given me some sort of confidence to sail through.”

So, now will Gujarati cinema take a back seat? Pratik says, “My primary focus will be mainstream films and web series because I feel that I will have to prove myself constantly in this world. However, that doesn’t mean I am taking a break from regional cinema or theatre. Different mediums have a lot to offer, and I am keeping my options open. I recently did one audio series and am doing short films, too. I am also working on a Gujarati film and gearing up for the second season of the Gujarati web series Vitthal Teedi. However, time is definitely going to be a constraint. Taking that into consideration, I might have to take longer breaks between two Gujarati projects, but I am not going to stop being a part of them.”
