Perth stylist Elysian Agency owner Gabi Holt brings A-game for Lizzie Stock and Rali Maynard’s Brownlow looks
On the night of the coveted Brownlow Medal, everyone knows it’s the red carpet looks that gain sole focus.
Yes, it’s a night to celebrate AFL’s best and fairest, but there’s something about the elegant gowns and glamorous accessories that really gets fans hyped up.
This year’s event — hosted at Crown Melbourne on Monday night — has a touch of West Coast allure, with Perth’s Elysian Agency styling Lizzie Stock and Rali Maynard, respective partners of Fremantle stars Andy Brayshaw and Hayden Young.
Gabi Holt, owner of Elysian, said she’s “excited” to style the Melbourne-born beauties.
The 32-year-old mother-of-two has been working closely with Perth-based Stock and Maynard to ensure their red carpet style is seamless. And she may be pulling inspiration from a former red carpet veteran, revealing she was “always a fan of Jessie Murphy’s look” when her husband Marc Murphy was donning Carlton’s navy blue.
Stock, a cosmetic injector, is returning to AFL’s night of nights for a second time while Maynard, an interior designer and actress, is making her debut.
Holt said she’s been “styling and coordinating” Stock’s “entire look” from the get-go.
“It’s been really special to see the vision unfold with her from the beginning,” she added.
On the other hand, she said Maynard’s look is “a beautiful creation” which “fits the bill beautifully”.
“That’s the benefit of having a network of incredible designers here in WA,” she added.
Holt is hoping to kick serious goals with the two looks this year, but said ensuring Stock and Maynard feel good is her number one priority.
“Overall the night in itself is actually quite daunting for a lot, there’s people that will love what you wear or not love what you wear, and that’s just reality,” she said.
“It’s been important to make sure the girls just feel really good, and just enjoy the whole experience. We’ve gone with looks that complement this.
“I’m a big fan of a classic silhouette, and a well-fitted piece. After all, these are the kind of styles that last a lifetime so we’re staying true to it this year.”
As well as wanting the girls to feel tip-top, Holt admits supporting local is always front and centre.
“I love to showcase local,” she said, adding “especially with the local girls.”
“Melbourne and Eastern States designers tend to dominate the Brownlow because it’s so big over there, particularly with the night being in Melbourne, so it’s a real treat to be able to work with local WA businesses to have WA on the red carpet.”
She also revealed that both girls have had their “pre-glam” treatments done by “beautiful local businesses” in Perth.
“For Rali, it’s been Skin Collective for skin treatments, BrowTribe for eyebrows and Renee Yates for hair,” she said, adding “for Lizzie, it’s been Alison Jade for Brows and Maurice Meade for hair.”
Without giving too much away, Holt said both Stock and Maynard will don locally crafted goods.
“On the big night, both of the girls will be dripping in high end jewellery from my favourites, Doris and Karl at Brinkhaus in Claremont. Louise Nuku at Nuku Couture has custom-made one of the gowns and we’re also lucky to have a magnificent Natalie Rolt piece.”
And in terms of trends on this year’s red carpet, the Elysian owner says she’s expecting “metallics, beads and sheer fabrics.”
“Big trends at the moment… hint hint” she added.
And as we roll into warmer weather, Holt said it’s best to go “relaxed and effortless”, and expects we’ll see “bold colours and prints.” for the upcoming season.
“Coordinating sets are here to stay,” she said, “and a much-welcomed inclusion of a sarong, worn out as a tie side skirt.”
But Holt admits she’s “not a not huge trend follower.”
“I’d rather stick with the pieces that stand the test of time, that are still stylish and cool.”
