‘Overwatch 2’ Steam Purchases Aren’t Showing Up For Some Players, Others Can Use Illari Without Unlocking Her

Overwatch 2 just made its debut on Steam with the launch of the Invasion season, but some players are running into bugs while playing on that platform. In some cases, Steam purchases aren’t showing up in-game.

“We identified and are working to resolve an issue with purchases on Steam not granting access to the content in the game,” Blizzard noted on the list of current known issues. “For those affected, please try restarting your Overwatch 2 game client.”

That’s a bit of a problem, especially for folks who want to access the paid Story Missions or get instant access to Illari through the premium Battle Pass. So I’m glad Blizzard is looking to resolve this quickly.

If you’re running into this problem, you should make sure you have the Steam Overlay enabled. Blizzard says that playing Overwatch 2 without the Steam Overlay will “require the QR code flow for account creation and will block in-game purchases.” You can check Steam’s support pages to find out how to switch on the overlay.

In addition, Team 4 pointed out that some people are actually able to access Illari without unlocking her through the Battle Pass. It says that’s an issue it’s trying to resolve too, even though gating heroes behind the Battle Pass has been a bone of contention in the Overwatch 2 community.

Some other Illari bugs have popped up. According to the list of known issues:

  • When Illari’s pylon is hacked by Sombra the UI world indicator for the pylon disappears
  • When Illari’s pylon is tossed onto specific parts of the map, the Pylon is instantly destroyed
  • Some of Illari’s weapon VFX are missing from other players’ perspective

Elsewhere, Blizzard has temporarily removed the Midtown map as it looks into an issue with it. Team 4 also notes that the career profile may not be updating properly for some console players, while some folks are running into the dreaded LC-208 connection error.

The devs will be looking to fix these bugs as soon as possible. There’s one other thing I’ve heard about that doesn’t appear on the list of known issues. Some players are loading into Flashpoint maps in Competitive play, even though the new PvP mode isn’t supposed to be available in ranked until later in the Invasion season.

On a positive note, when Overwatch 2: Invasion went live on Thursday, Blizzard fixed an issue that led to commas disappearing from numbers above 1,000 on the scoreboard. That was perhaps the worst change — albeit an accidental one — that Team 4 ever made to the game, so I’m very happy that didn’t take long to resolve.

Meanwhile, since you’re here (and since I don’t have time to cover it in a separate story today), why not take a peek at Illari’s origin story video? It’s another gem.
