‘Overwatch 2’ Season 2 Map Rotation Revealed

One of the more controversial decisions Blizzard took with Overwatch 2 was to rotate the map selection each season. However, I think it’s a good idea that can help to freshen things up while giving the devs some time to make some adjustments in between seasons, such as to add more natural cover to older maps and fix any bugs.

Now that Season 2 is live, Blizzard has updated the map pool. I omitted the list of Season 2 maps from my story on the patch notes because that piece was getting too long. However, the Season 2 maps are as follows:

Push

  • New Queen Street – Morning
  • Colosseo – Evening
  • Esperança – Morning

Hybrid

  • Blizzard World – Overcast (new variant)
  • Eichenwalde – Evening
  • King’s Row – Evening
  • Midtown – Morning
  • Paraíso – Morning

Escort

  • Dorado – Evening
  • Junkertown – Morning
  • Circuit Royal – Night
  • Rialto – Morning
  • Route 66 – Night
  • Shambali Monastery – Night (new map)

Control

  • Busan – Night
  • Ilios – Evening
  • Lijiang Tower – Dawn
  • Nepal – Evening (new variant)
  • Oasis – Morning (new variant)

No change to the Push maps, which isn’t surprising as there are only three total in the game. I didn’t spot any major layout changes to Blizzard World in the Season 2 test build, but the overcast lighting is cool. I like the gloomy vibe the clouds and rain bring to the map. Nepal and Oasis still look beautiful in different lighting.

Blizzard previously said it was making some changes to the Rialto layout. At the beginning of the map, there are crates around the payload to give the attackers some extra cover and make it a bit harder for defenders to hook or boop enemies into the water. Elsewhere, there’s a tall statue in the middle of the square just before checkpoint A. You’ll see some crates around checkpoint B too.

Meanwhile, Shambali Monastery is a gorgeous new Escort map with some great flanking routes. Starting at checkpoint A and going into point B, there’s a path through a cave that might help attacking DPS players get to the defenders’ backline with relative ease.

It seems like a fun map, with a long, winding route for the payload. I love the contrast between the more constricted point B and the more open point C. My favorite touch, though, is the lights you see on the Moon, where Horizon Lunar Colony is.

In any case, you can now check out Shambali for yourself, as well as all of the other changes in Season 2, which is now live.
