Mariah Carey And Chopard Unveil Two Sparkling Butterfly Jewelry Collections

Mariah Carey has had one of the most stellar careers in the history of popular music. The prolific singer and songwriter with a rare five-octave vocal range has sold more than 200 million albums and has written or co-written 18 of her 19 number one songs during her three decades of stardom.

Now for the first time she has turned her creativity to jewelry on a stage nearly as big as the one she already commands. She has partnered with Caroline Scheufele, Chopard co-president and artistic director, to create two jewelry collections: Chopard X Mariah Carey high jewelry collection and the Happy Butterfly X Mariah Carey fine jewelry collection.

The butterfly has special meaning for both the world-renowned singer and Swiss luxury brand. For Chopard it is a style icon, conveying renewed aspirations and a free-spirited approach to life. For Carey, it was the title of her ground-breaking 1997 album that transitioned her from adult contemporary music to R&B and hip hop; and displayed a creative maturity and evolution in her songwriting. She has said that the album Butterfly was a turning point in both her life and career. In fact, the release of the jewelry collections is timed to coincide with the release of a special 25th-anniversary edition of Butterfly.

Carey says the two jewelry collections reflect this rebirth through the butterfly motif, Chopard said in a statement. This emblem of lightness and transformation is a symbol of reinventing oneself, by combining elegance, daintiness and symbolic power.

Chopard X Mariah Carey Collection

Scheufele and Carey’s interpretation of the winged insect in this high jewelry collection has the body and wings of the butterfly entirely paved in diamonds of different sizes and shapes giving it a textured appearance. Each piece is centered with a heart-shaped diamond. Around the main motif are scatterings of round diamonds in collet-style settings. The set consists of a necklace, asymmetrical earrings and a ring

The jewels are all made with Fairmined-certified ethical 18k white gold and the diamonds are from suppliers approved by the Responsible Jewellery Council, a standards organization in the watch and jewelry industry.

Scheufele calls it “a butterfly featuring majestic proportions and sensual curves while conveying an ethical message.”

Happy Butterfly X Mariah Carey Collection

This fine jewelry collection of rings, bracelets, pendant necklaces and earrings is a colorful and playful interpretation of the butterfly. The pieces are made of ethically sourced rose or white gold, topped with either paved diamonds or carnelian.

The collection preserves the codes of Chopard’s Happy Diamonds collection, such as a transparent openworked heart where a dancing diamond is nestled between two sapphire crystals. The four wings unfold in a new way, reinventing the symmetry that often limits butterfly jewelry designs, Chopard said. This is reflected in the amplitude and movement of the pieces. Again, the materials are sourced from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Chopard, in a statement, says the collaboration between Chopard and Mariah Carey began in 2020 during Christmas when Carey received a book of Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection, the high jewels presented each year at the Cannes Film Festival. As the story goes, Carey was won over by Chopard’s creations and its ethical values and contacted Scheufele. Together they created this collaboration.

The next chapter of this creative partnership began Friday with the official launch of the two jewelry collections.
