Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep: 10 Hardest Bosses, Ranked

Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep added three different Keyblade-wielding characters that players could choose from. Each of those characters had different play styles, with Aqua focused on magic, Terra on strength, and Ventus on speed. They each had their own bosses during the campaign, and though some of them were hard, a lot of the most difficult bosses in the game were optional or part of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix which was as close to downloadable content as possible without actually being downloadable content.

This list will take into account the most difficult bosses that were in the game based on their damage output as well as what different skills players have to learn in order to take them down.

10 Monstro

Monstro is a boss that was added with the Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix that acts as a DLC to the game. The Monstro boss fight can be difficult more so because of the amount of health that Monstro possesses. The fight can be initiated early on and requires players to defeat enemies inside Monstro’s stomach as well as fight him once the smaller enemies have been cleared.

Monstro mainly attacks the player by lunging his body at them in addition to other water-based attacks. Taking him out later in the game will make him easier, but the giant boss adds a nice challenge early on.

9 Terra Xehanort – Terra

Terra Xehanort with Terra is a very hard boss fight for multiple reasons. It’s the last boss fight that players face in Terra’s arc and because of this, the challenge is set to another level. Terra is the slowest attacking and blocking character in the game since his play style is predominantly focused on strength.

The Terra Xehanort transformation makes the boss extremely powerful and fast with a lot of available health. Terra will fight this boss with his Keyblade armor, though his stats will remain the same, so players want to make sure they are adequately leveled.

8 The Dark Hide

The Dark Hide is the only pure-blood Heartless boss in the Birth By Sleep series, and the boss is a very difficult one at that. It is part of a chapter that Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix adds to the game. The boss will do a lot of fast moves that need to be timed well to dodge, but unlike some other enemies on this list, none of its attacks will get the player close to death in one hit.

This boss has a lot of cool and quick moves that can easily overwhelm the player, but it somehow feels much easier than the initial end-game boss.

7 Terra Xehanort – Aqua

Terra Xehanort is fought by Aqua in the final chapter of the game once all three of the main characters’ stories have been completed. It is the hardest boss required to complete the story. He is a lot harder here than in his earlier fights as he will have a lot more health and play more aggressively. Fortunately, Aqua has a shield that protects her in 360 degrees, so his projectiles can be easily thwarted.

The fight can easily catch players off guard. When they think it’s over, Terra Xehanort summons a Heartless out of his body and will regain all of his health — plus more — as well as gain different attacks.

6 Mimic Master

The Mimic Master boss is an optional boss with a giant magical book in Birth By Sleep. It will shoot lasers that — if they hit the player — will make them not be able to see anything besides what’s in the center of their screen. The mimic master will use a lot of spells as well as turn itself into the player’s character and make them have to fight a clone of themselves before the boss reappears.

There will be a point where multiple copies of the main character are made. The fight will get progressively more and more chaotic, with pages bursting to life and attacking the player. It’s a fun bout of enemy management.

5 Armor Of Eraqus

The Armor Of Eraqus boss fight is a Final Mix exclusive that is not the most difficult fight in terms of the damage the boss deals, but it still packs a pretty big punch. Players can play against this boss with every character in the game, unlike with some bosses. The separating line between this boss and other bosses that any of the characters in the game can play against is that this one adapts to each playable character.

The adaptation of each character makes the boss feel special, and while he won’t deal out the largest amount of damage compared to other bosses, he will still be a formidable opponent.

4 Iron Imprisoner IV

The Iron Imprisoner IV is the strongest form of the Iron Imprisoners in the game, and it shows as soon as the battle begins. The boss can trap the player in a cage, and when this happens, the player needs to try and break out of the cage. If they don’t break out in time, the Iron Imprisoner IV will do massive damage and kill the player.

The boss is a horrific combination of fast attacks with wildly high damage. One of the attacks has the boss spin toward the player, and if the attack hits, it’ll take out more than half the player’s health.

3 Mysterious Figure

The Mysterious Figure in Birth By Sleep is bound to give a lot of players difficulties as he employs many wildly fast moves that will easily put players, especially Terra, into the critical area with one health left instantaneously. Players must be ready to dodge a barrage of lasers as well as understand how to time different blocks and evasive maneuvers.

The enemy can also seem very hard to find an opening on because, unlike some enemies, he will keep putting pressure on the player without ever giving them any real time to recover.

2 Vanitas Remnant

Vanitas Remnant is the hardest optional boss in the base Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. There are some attacks that Vanitas will land that will instantly put the player in a critical state. If the player is not careful, then they can get hit there times and will die. The boss’ health is also deceptive; it appears to only have one health bar, but that’s not true.

The one health bar is there to fool the player as Vanitas has a lot of armor and also seems to have the ability to cast Curaga on himself which can, a lot of the time, bring his health back up.

1 No Heart

No Heart is one of the hardest bosses in the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts series. The boss has a lot of speculation surrounding it as it bears a striking resemblance to Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts 2. Some players also assume it’s Xehanort’s initial Keyblade armor. The boss has a lot of different attacks that look as though they are made up of darkness — like his wall of Keyblades that he will fire at the player. His first and second phase also have separate health pools.

No Name in his second phase will have form changes instead of adding phase changes on top of phase changes. These will change his weapon’s appearance and fighting style. There are about six in total, and each of them must be approached differently in order to triumph in the end.
