In Its 25Th Year, The David Citadel Expands Offerings For Families And Foodies


While 25 years doesn’t sound particularly old, for a hotel that endured the Covid-19 pandemic and its various travel restrictions, plus a looming global recession, a quarter-century is practically icon status.

Take the David Citadel, the stalwart property in the middle of Jerusalem. Now celebrating its 25th year, the 385-room-and-suite hotel has established itself as the choice property for international politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pompeo, as well as high-profile international celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian and Mariah Carey. Last year, the David Citadel unveiled a new and state-of-the-art children’s play center, a forward-thinking and interactive space created by award-winning interior designer, Sarit Shani Hay. It’s open to all children staying at the hotel. The center is a massive, 1,312 square-feet space that incorporates iconic Jerusalem landmarks into its design, including a corner stage resembling the Jerusalem Tunnels, a fruit and vegetable market paying homage to the city’s famed Machane Yehuda food market, as well as the Montefiore Windmill reminiscent of the historic structure located in the Yemin Moshe district and built in 1857.

The children’s play center at the David Citadel keeps children and teenagers active with a miniature- indoor football field, gymnastic and boxing area, ping-pong, foosball and billiards table, and also boasts a miniature kitchen, living room and doll house, as well as an entertainment corner replete with televisions and computers. In addition, various emblems of Jerusalem – the lion, harp, and gazelle, among others – are recurring motifs throughout the space.

The David Citadel is also fast becoming a culinary hotspot with the reopening of Veranda, its in-house restaurant that recently debuted a new meat concept Kosher-certified by Rav Rubin. Located on the hotel’s grandiose open-air terrace with unobstructed views of the Old City of Jerusalem, Veranda is led by the hotel’s executive Chef Kfir Misnikov and is set to become a must-visit destination for all kosher meat and culinary aficionados. Along with a delectable array of innovative and fresh dishes, the menu includes a selection of quality cuts that are soaked, slow-cooked, smoked, and broiled, such as the Asado beef, cooked in the restaurant’s smokehouse for 12 hours, or lamb shoulder, soaked in citrus brine for 48 hours before smoking in apple tree charcoal for another 12 hours. The menu also includes fish and vegetarian options.
