But it was Bieber’s rainbow-coloured jacket paired with (not a typo) purple sunglasses that dominated chatter on social media when he was captured in the stands alongside his wife Hailey.

The official Twitter account from the team shared a photo of Bieber cheering on the team and captioned it, “THE PASSION.” Later the club changed the pic to its cover photo.

In a post-game scrum, Bieber’s pal Auston Matthews was asked if he spotted his friend in the crowd. “I think I caught it a little bit earlier before they announced him, but I definitely saw that,” he said smiling. “It was hard to miss.”

Meanwhile, fans took to social media to try and figure out where the Baby singer obtained the Care Bear-inspired coat with one person sourcing a similar purple and pink puffer jacket on sale.

Over the years, Bieber has been vocal in his support of the Leafs, even helping co-design team jerseys with his Drew clothing brand.

At the beginning of the pandemic-shortened 2021 season, the Grammy winner took his fandom to another level as he tried to manifest the squad’s first Stanley Cup since 1967 with regular posts to his social media pages.

“This is the year,” Bieber declared early on after the group rolled to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators. But during the team’s first-round matchup exit at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens, Bieber’s social feed went conspicuously quiet and fans tried to blame him for not cheering loudly enough.

“The Leafs lost because Justin Bieber hasn’t posted a random old Leafs logo on Instagram in a while,” one person jokingly theorized.

The Leafs return to home ice Saturday night with a tilt against the Calgary Flames.
