Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro run on Android 13 out of the box
Both Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro run on the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Android 13, out of the box. Google claims that Pixel 7 series offers the best Android experience yet. “It’s fast, smart and secure. Plus, the fresh new style and customisation capabilities makes it feel unique to each user. Users can recolour the look of their app icons to match the aesthetic of their phone’s wallpaper, and even assign specific languages to individual apps,” said the company in a statement.
Tensor G2 chipset: The heart of Google Pixel phones
The key highlight of the new Google Pixel phones is the company’s latest-generation chipset — Tensor G2. Google introduced the Tensor chipset in 2021 with the Pixel 6 series. The Tensor G2 processor is custom built for Pixel and comes with the company’s advanced machine learning and speech recognition technology. Tensor G2 also gives the new Pixel phones some software-based camera improvements. These include up to two times faster Night Sight processing and new features like Cinematic Blur. Photo Unblur, a Google Photos feature coming first to Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, will use machine learning to improve blurry pictures — even old ones. The Cinematic Blur feature applies a depth-based portrait mode effect to video clips.
With Pixel 7’s speech recognition technology, the phone will be able to transcribe audio messages on Google’s Messages app. In Assistant voice typing, which now automatically suggests emojis relevant to messages, users can also search for emojis with their voice.
Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro camera
Google 7 and 7 Pro sport 50-megapixel main camera and 12MP ultra-wide camera, same as in Pixel 6 series. Users can extend camera range with Super Res Zoom up to 8x on Pixel 7, and up to 30x on Pixel 7 Pro. The phones also offer optical quality similar to a dedicated 2x telephoto lens for Pixel 7 and a 10x telephoto lens for Pixel 7 Pro.
The Pixel 7 Pro also comes with Macro Focus, which delivers Pixel HDR+ photo quality from as close as three centimetres away. Videos are also getting an upgrade with the new 10-bit HDR.
Updates to exiting camera features
Google has also made updates to existing camera features making what it says is Pixel’s most inclusive camera to date. Real Tone’s camera algorithms have been trained with more than 10,000 additional portraits of people of colour from image expert partners to make sure that Pixel Camera consistently renders all skin tones authentically. Night Sight now only needs half of the normal exposure time to produce beautiful low-light images that are sharper than before.
5 years security update
The new Pixel phones come with five years of security updates. Google says that Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are the most secure and private Pixel phones yet compared to previously launched Pixel phones. The phones come with Titan M2 security chip, same as Pixel 6 series phones.
