… on a first date? You want to try but not too hard – a casual pant or jean with a nice shirt and a sneaker. On the second date is when “sexy Michael” comes out; then I’m in my silks, I’m wearing my best perfume.
… on a plane? Lightweight merino long-sleeve tee and pants and a large Loro Piana cashmere shawl. I think it’s actually a blanket but I use it as a scarf.
… on the red carpet? One of the reasons I started making menswear is because a well-cut suit is just not me. I’d wear a deconstructed silk suit and silk trench coat with a Bottega slide. Maybe I look like a samurai but I don’t care; I feel fabulous.
What’s your fragrance of choice?
“I Don’t Know What” by D.S. & Durga. I literally get stopped in the street when I’m wearing it.
Any go-to jewellery? I love jewellery. I source gemstones, pearls and diamonds from auction houses – I get into bidding wars, it’s my hobby – and have them made into pendants to put on Tiffany & Co chains.

Can you remember a favourite outfit from when you were a child? An amazing, colourful Coogi sweater when I was about seven. I wore it to death. I still don’t want to talk to my mother about it. She threw it out.
What was your first fashion moment? I am a big James Bond fan, so when the opportunity came up to do some gowns for Ana de Armas in No Time to Die it was life changing.
And your worst fashion mistake? No regrets. I’ve been chic all my life.
What’s on your wish list? I love living beyond my means. My next collection is inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, who had a jewellery collection like no other. I’d like the ring Richard Burton gave her. It’s one of the biggest diamonds in the world.
Is there something you would never wear? I’d rather shoot myself in the face than wear polyester.

Is there a current trend you like?
I love pink. I still remember my mum’s Lanvin lipstick in a bright Barbie pink. It’s a trigger, I have so many fantastic hot-pink pieces in my wardrobe. Also, the return to luxury. There’s too much garbage out there and my eyes are starving for beauty.
What shoes do you wear most often? I’m constantly in slides. I love Jil Sander, Dries van Noten and Loewe.
What do you wear to bed? I have accumulated a ridiculous amount of Qantas pyjamas. They’re so comfortable.
Who’s your favourite fashion icon? Style is more than just clothes; it’s an attitude and a lifestyle. JFK jnr and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy embodied that timeless luxury.
What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? It’s about being comfortable in layers of linen – I like to keep it tonal. And I always have emergency outfits; I might end up at lunch at Icebergs, or at a party. You need to be prepared.
