Cruises, Lodgings That Offer Pickleball, U.S. Fastest Growing Sport

For three years, pickleball has been named America’s fastest growing sport by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. Pickleball courts have opened in public areas like Central Park, and condos and playgrounds are adding the courts around the country. Even fashion brand Norma Kamali has introduced pickleball dresses.

The travel industry is responding. Ships, hotels and resorts are transforming deck space, tennis and basketball courts into pickleball courts to keep up with the demand.

River cruise innovator AmaWaterways is serving up the industry’s first full-sized pickleball court onboard its wellness-centric ship, AmaMagna.

Located on the sun deck, which measures nearly twice the width of traditional river cruise ships, the new court invites guests to take a swing while being docked in the heart of picturesque towns along Europe’s Danube river.

At sea, Holland America’s fleet has become the Professional Pickleball Association’s (PPA) official cruise line. All their ships have courts on the top deck and offer complimentary beginner lessons.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory offer courts; other ships in the fleet are adapting basketball courts with recently-added equipment.

Celebrity Cruises has courts on nine ships. Royal Caribbean offers pickleball on Odyssey of the Seas, in the indoor SeaPlex sports area, and more courts are being added.

Regent Seven Seas Explorer and the new Seven Seas Splendor offer the option. Princess Cruises will also list pickleball open-play sessions and tournaments at the Sports Court on Sky Princess and Enchanted Princess.

MSC Cruises offers pickleball on MSC World Europa; its new ship for 2023, MSC Euribia, has a court. And when Crystal Cruises revamped ships return this summer, pickleball will be an option.
