Burnt-out car possibly linked to student’s stabbing near Melbourne school


Police are investigating whether a burnt-our car could be linked to a horrific attack on a 14-year-old boy who is now fighting for his life.

Police were told the teen was confronted by unknown offenders in a dark grey Volkswagen Tiguan outside Glen Eira College at Glen Hutley about 3.35pm on Monday.

The boy was forced into the car which took off along Neerim Rd.

A short time later he was dumped on the side of the road in “unknown circumstances”.

The teen was found suffering significant injuries near Grange Rd intersection and was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

It is understood the boy had recently finished school when the ordeal started.

Police launched an urgent investigation into the attack and overnight located a burnt-out car on Heatherton Rd in Dandenong.

Officers were tipped off by fire authorities to the burnt-out Volkswagen Tiguan, which was found fully engulfed in flames shortly after midnight.

A police spokesperson said due to the level of damage officers were still working to determine if the vehicle was linked to the attack.

Police will also seek to determine whether the vehicle was stolen, and if it is connected to a separate possibly related incident in Caulfield.

Four teenagers were robbed by two unknown offenders armed with machetes in nearby Kambrook Rd about 3.25pm on Monday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Lisa Watson said police believed a number of items had been taken in the attack, including mobile phones.

Sergeant Watson also confirmed to Nine News that police were yet to speak to the Year 9 student, who was in a stable condition on Tuesday.

“The child is not in a position to speak to us at this time,” she said.

“There are some facts and circumstances that we won’t be aware of and unable to confirm until we’ve been able to speak with him.”

Glen Eira College, where the teen is believed to have attended school, sent an email to parents Monday night about the incident.

“This is a horrible situation which has no doubt shocked many of our school community,” the email said.

“Our hearts go out to the student, student’s family and friends during this time.”

Nine News reported the college said additional wellbeing support would be available for any students who needed it.
