Brooke Burke Shares Her Go-To Rules For Staying Fit At Any Age

For actor, influencer and entrepreneur, Brooke Burke fitness is basically a second language. The popular TV host has been making a splash in the health and wellness industry one workout at a time.

At 51, the Dancing with the Stars winner screams fitspiration—proving that your workout goals don’t have to fall by the wayside as you get older.

Following the launch of her new superfood supplement line, Longevity, I caught up with Burke to talk about her go-to rules for keeping one’s fitness journey on track at any age:

#1 Keep it real. “Self-care is a daily practice. People think it will get easy or it’s going to come naturally but I couldn’t disagree more,” says the 51-year-old. It’s a conscious choice, a commitment and any kind of commitment needs consistent work, she adds. Thinking about the positive outcomes that await on the other side is one way to keep yourself motivated. “I stay motivated by knowing what’s on the other side of a great sweat,” says Burke. “I feel so much better after a workout than when I begin it,” she adds.

#2 Schedule “me-time” like you schedule other tasks. “Make a promise to yourself to make yourself a priority and commit to honoring that personal promise. You are worthy of it,” says Burke. “I knock out workouts in the morning. It gives me the energy boost to be able to do everything else in my life,” she shares. “I schedule it like I schedule everything else—business meetings, kids’ sports events, etc. It also teaches my children the value of ‘me time’,” says the mompreneur.

#3 Learn to hold yourself accountable. Accountability is all about taking ownership of your choices. Some people make the excuse of time or lack of energy, truth is, you’re more likely to stay motivated to achieve your goals when you hold yourself accountable to the personal promise, says Burke. Setting small and realistic goals, regularly tracking your progress, teaming up with a workout buddy and rewarding yourself for hitting milestones are a few easy ways to hold yourself accountable in your fitness journey.

#4 Don’t shy away from cheat days. “I try to eat something similar to a Mediterranean diet—lean meat, fish, crunchy vegetables, olive oil and green tea. Avoiding starches, flour, processed foods and saturated fats. But I [also] enjoy decadent meals every once in a while and I don’t beat myself up over it,” says Burke. “There isn’t a restaurant in the world where I’m not able to find a great meal,” she shares. “At home, a cheat day for me would be red wine and pizza with olive oil, olives and jalapenos,” adds the fitness influencer.

#5 Try to stay in tune with your body. “Be a personal detective and understand your own body because what works for me might not work for you and what works for you might fail for me,” says the Brooke Burke Body founder.
