The Perth Scorchers are in the box seat but have a tricky chase ahead after an up-and-down first innings.
The Scorchers turned the screws through the first 12 overs taking the vital scalps of Steve Smith, Josh Philippe and Kurtis Patterson, but Sixers skipper Moises Henriques (58) fired back after being given a second chance.
The skipper established an 88-run partnership with Jordan Silk (47n.o) to rescue a competitive 8-151.
The massive crowd were amped as the players were announced, with Sixers megastar Steve Smith coping a few boos pregame.
But they were on a different level as Jason Behrendorff ripped into Josh Philippe’s off stump in the first over after the young West Aussie advanced.
The roar was even louder as Aaron Hardie plucked the ball out of thin air in a hanger worthy of an AFL game to send former Scorcher Kurtis Patterson back to the sheds.
The crowd weren’t so enthused when he tripped over his own feet and dropped Smith, but it didn’t slow the Scorcher’s roll.
Import David Payne, who was in doubt before the contest due to illness, plucked a low caught and bowled chance to remove the Sixers talisman for his lowest score of the season, 18.
The crowd were again ooing as Andrew Tye’s catching mojo deserted him, dropping a straightforward chance at point with Moises Henriques on 18.
Henriques and Silk stole clever singles and manipulated the field as they built towards triple figures.
The Sydney skipper took a liking to Lance Morris to get the runs flowing.
Payne laboured through for the Scorchers as the visitors breached the 100 mark, but Tye’s woes continued with his third over going for 19.
Henriques looked set to take over the innings as he pumped Payne for six, but fell short trying to repeat the dose, caught by Stephen Eskinazi.
The Perth faithful were back on their feet next ball as he caught and bowled Hayden Kerr, but was denied a hattrick chance after running out of deliveries.

Hardie juggled a difficult skied ball in a ragged final over as Sydney put 8-151 on the board.
