More specifically, his “non-binary gingerbread people.”

It’s been three years but people are finally noticing the label on the back of the gingerbread cookies sold by Paul Cook at The Cottage Bakery in Blackpool, England.
But considering the woke world we live in, customers who purchased the gingerbread people are blasting Cook for it.
“Really? A non-binary gingerbread people? What it’s really come to,” read the caption of a Facebook post that has since gone viral.

The comments labeled the label a “woke agenda,” while others called it “absolute madness.”
One woman wrote, “Oh dear. That’s a gingerbread man. Why?! It’s just odd, you can only identify as a male or a female. Quit it.”
But many didn’t really seem an issue.
“Tbh, should have always had this option or a ‘Gingerbread Person’ so everyone feels included,” a user defended. “Little lasses may have wanted a gingerbread woman/girl, so this is good.”
However, Cook was surprised that it took so long for people to notice the packaging.
“We’ve sold them for 20 years here and we re-labelled them about three years ago and it’s only the last week that it’s just got mental as somebody posted it on Facebook and everyone started going on about it,” he told the Daily Star.

The bakery began changed the labels on their treats when ‘Natasha’s Law’ – which followed the death of a teenager who died after suffering a deadly allergic reaction to a baguette – was brought forward in Parliament in 2019, resulting in establishments having to change the way they label their products.
He explained, “It was then that they came up with the new name for the gingerbread biscuits as a lighthearted joke because people had said you can’t call them gingerbread men.”
He added: “Because we wrap the cakes we had to label them and because of a lot of people making comments that we couldn’t call them gingerbread men, we called them gingerbread people.”
It was the printer’s suggestion to refer to them as “non-binary” — as a joke — which Cook was more than happy to go with.
Regardless, he’s defending them.
“It wasn’t meant to upset or be offensive to anyone, it was just a little bit of a joke really,” he said. “It’s just gingerbread, it’s not a man or a woman then, is it? It’s nothing.”
