  • Revised styling elements and new digital rear-view mirror
  • Choice of 40kWh standard and 62kWh long-range e+ models
  • Priced from $50,990 before on-road costs

The updated 2023 Nissan Leaf electric car is due to arrive in Australian showrooms in August 2022, priced $1000 higher than the pre-update model it replaces.

Revealed in updated form in February, Nissan’s current Leaf electric hatchback – one of the first mass-market electric cars upon the original’s 2010 launch – has gained a selection of new styling details for Model Year 2023, along with a handful of extra features.

Prices are up by $1000 across the range, with the entry-level 40kWh model now priced from $50,990 plus on-road costs, and the flagship 62kWh e+ variant from $61,490 plus on-road costs.

Design changes for 2023 include black finishes for the grille and headlight surrounds, tweaked diffuser, spoiler and side sills, and a new 17-inch wheel design, plus Nissan’s new logo front and rear.

A digital rear-view mirror is now fitted inside – which projects a camera feed from the rear into the centre mirror, available at the push of a button – while there’s also the ‘Canto’ sound, which plays below 30km/h to notify other road users if the vehicle is accelerating forwards, braking or reversing.

Buyers continue to have a choice of an entry-level model with a 40kWh battery and 110kW/320Nm electric motor, or a flagship e+ with a 62kWh battery and 160kW/340Nm electric motor – both powering the front wheels.

WLTP driving range and 0-100km/h acceleration claims are 270km and 7.9 seconds respectively for the 40kWh variant, or 385km and 6.9 seconds for the e+.

DC fast charging is on offer, enabling a one-hour 20 to 80 per cent fast charge in the base Leaf, or 1.5 hours in the Leaf e+.
