  • Updated range offers two variants
  • Mild styling tweaks, spec upgrades
  • Priced from $90,900 before on-road costs, unchanged

The 2023 BMW Z4 is due in Australian showrooms early next year, priced from $90,900 plus on-road costs.

Revealed yesterday, the updated 2023 Z4 – which serves as the mid-life facelift for BMW’s roadster – introduces mild design changes and standard specification tweaks, but no upgrades to interior technology, safety or engines.

Two models will be available in Australia, the four-cylinder sDrive20i and inline six-cylinder M40i, both with M Sport packages as standard, and eight-speed automatic transmissions.

The mid-grade sDrive30i four-cylinder was quietly axed from the pre-update range earlier this year – and will not return for the ‘facelift’. It has also been discontinued in the UK.

Prices start from $90,900 plus on-road costs for the sDrive20i, or $133,900 plus on-road costs for the M40i – unchanged from the outgoing range.

New for 2023 is the revised exterior appearance, three new metallic paint colours (M Portimao Blue, Thundernight and Skyscraper Grey), a new 19-inch black wheel design, and for the M40i, metallic paint.

Two option packages are available on 2023 vehicles: M Sport Plus for both models – which now includes black headlight inserts – and the Precision Package for the sDrive20i.

Powering the sDrive20i is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 145kW and 320Nm, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive for a 6.6-second 0-100km/h time, and combined fuel economy claim of 6.5 litres per 100km.

The M40i upgrades to a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder developing 285kW and 500Nm, connected to the same eight-speed auto and rear-drive layout for a 4.1-second 0-100km/h dash.

The 2023 BMW Z4 range is due in Australia in the first quarter of next year (January to March).
