2022 Volkswagen Virtus launched in India at Rs 11.21 lakh: Brings the sedan segment to life


Volkswagen today finally launched its much-anticipated Virtus sedan in the Indian market at a price of Rs 11.21 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Comfortline 1.0-litre TSI variant. The top-spec variant is priced at Rs 17.91 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The brand had already commenced the bookings of the Virtus sedan at an initial amount of Rs 25,000.
Service value packages for the Virtus start from Rs 20,338 for the 1.0-litre TSI variants and Rs 22,881 for the 1.5-litre TSI variants – both for 4 years. The company claims that the service cost of the car starts from Rs 40 paise/km for the 1.0-litre version, and Rs 45 paise/km for the 1.5-litre version.
The Virtus is being offered with over 90 accessories across exterior, interior, tire, travel and comfort, car care, and lifestyle merchandise. Volkswagen says its India 2.0 project is now complete with the launch of the Virtus.
Volkswagen now has 152 sales touchpoints in 105 cities in India, with a total of 120 service facilities. The company now offers 4 year/1,00,000 km warranty, 4 years roadside assistance and 3 free services as standard across all models.

The Virtus will be offered in four trim levels – Topline, Highline and Comfortline for the 1.0-litre engine, and GT Plus for the 1.5-litre engine.

The 2022 Volkswagen Virtus stands at 4,561 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width and 1,507 mm in height. The sedan has a wheelbase of 2,651 mm, making it the longest car in the mid-size sedan segment. The Virtus sedan offers a boot space of 521 litres.

On the exterior front, the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus gets signature LED headlamps paired with DRLs, LED tail-lamps, a chrome grille, ‘Razor’ glossy-black alloy wheels and more.

The sedan has also received an electric sunroof, a digital driver’s display, cruise control, and so on.

At the front, the Virtus sedan offers 1,020 mm leg room, 1,021 mm headroom and 1,390 mm shoulder room. The rear seats get a headroom space of 952 mm, 920 mm leg room and 1,349 mm shoulder room.

At the heart, the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus is powered by two engine choices, including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI and 1.5-litre four-cylinder EVO. The former generates 115 PS @5,000-5,500 rpm and 178 Nm @ 1,750-4,500 rpm, while the latter produces 150 PS @ 5,000-6,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,600-3,500 rpm.

The 1.0-litre engine can be had with either a 6-speed MT, or an optional 6-speed torque converter AT, while the 1.5-litre engine will be offered with a 7-speed DSG as standard. The 1.5-litre engine also gets Active Cylinder Technology.

The Volkswagen Virtus sedan gets more than 40 active and passive safety features, including six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system, Electronic Stability Control, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Control, multi-collision brakes, a reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors and more.

The Volkswagen Virtus is available in six colour options – Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver and Rising Blue Metallic.

The new Volkswagen Virtus sedan will directly rival the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, as well as its own cousin, the Skoda Slavia.
